Another post on PSY’s new video ‘Gangnam Style’. Overdoing it? Well, maybe not because it has been gaining considerable popularity. Since writing my post yesterday, the video now has 69 million hits: 3 million more than yesterday. But actually, that is not what this blog is about.
Gangnam Style is not the only thing taking Korea by storm at the moment. Did you know that South Korea is currently preparing itself for one of the nation’s worst storms in decades?
Blogger Amy Dunkley who is teaching English presently in Incheon reported yesterday that Typhoon Bolaven is on its way to the Korean mainland. Read her post here.
Typhoon Bolaven has already battered the Japanese island of Okinawa, and will shortly be hitting the South Korean island of Jeju before working it’s way up the peninsula, reaching Incheon at some point tomorrow afternoon. All schools in both Seoul and Incheon have been closed (a true indication of what to expect; most hagwon bosses wouldn’t close their doors even in the event of a zombie apocalypse), flights and ferries have been cancelled and the state disaster relief board is on it’s highest level of alert.
Since posting, Typhoon Bolaven has reached Korean landfall resulting in considerable damage and loss of life. Report from boston.com can be found here with more information. This would be a time for much concern among Koreans, especially those who are here in Australia studying. We hope your families stay safe.
Take care Amy! Thanks for your earlier post, and let us know how things turn out.
